Responsibilities & Expectations:
As a Project Manager – Hydro Field Services, you will manage hydroelectric generator service, repair, maintenance, and refurbishment projects from initial planning through field execution and project closeout.
You will serve as a primary point of coordination between IPS customers, Field Services, Engineering, Operations, vendors, and other internal resources to ensure projects are executed safely, on schedule, within scope and budget, and in accordance with customer expectations.
This position is ideal for an experienced project or field-service professional who understands the demands of outage-driven work and can successfully manage multiple customer projects, field resources, changing priorities, and technical requirements.
Project Management & Execution
• Manage hydro field service projects from award and kickoff through planning, mobilization, field execution, demobilization, and closeout.
• Develop and maintain project schedules, milestones, budgets, resource plans, and deliverables.
• Coordinate manpower, field leadership, engineering support, tooling, equipment, materials, subcontractors, and other resources required for successful project execution.
• Partner closely with Hydro Field Team Leaders and other field personnel to monitor project progress and resolve execution challenges.
• Monitor project performance against scope, schedule, budget, and customer commitments and communicate potential risks before they impact project execution.
• Coordinate project kickoff meetings, internal reviews, customer updates, and project closeout activities.
• Maintain accurate project documentation, schedules, status reports, action items, and customer communications.
Customer Management
• Serve as a primary customer contact throughout the project lifecycle and develop strong relationships with utilities, generating facilities, and other customer stakeholders.
• Establish clear expectations regarding project scope, schedule, deliverables, field requirements, and customer responsibilities.
• Provide timely project updates and proactively communicate schedule changes, technical issues, resource constraints, and other conditions affecting project execution.
• Coordinate with customers and internal teams to resolve issues while maintaining strong customer relationships.
• Support long-term customer relationships by understanding upcoming outages, equipment needs, future projects, and service opportunities.
Commercial & Financial Management
• Manage project financial performance, including budget, forecast, labor, materials, subcontractor costs, travel, equipment, and other project expenses.
• Review project scope and contractual requirements to ensure work is executed in accordance with customer commitments.
• Identify work outside the original project scope and coordinate documentation, pricing, approval, and execution of change orders.
• Monitor project costs and forecast potential budget or margin impacts throughout execution.
• Support invoicing, project documentation, and financial closeout activities.
• Partner with Sales, Applications Engineering, and Operations on proposals, estimates, project planning, and future customer opportunities.
Field & Technical Coordination
• Develop a working understanding of hydro generator service and repair activities involving stators, rotors, windings, inspections, testing, and associated balance-of-plant equipment.
• Work closely with Field Team Leaders and Engineering to understand technical findings, repair recommendations, project risks, and changing field conditions.
• Coordinate technical information between customers, Engineering, Field Services, vendors, and other stakeholders.
• Support resolution of unexpected field conditions, schedule changes, resource requirements, and technical issues.
• Ensure field teams have the information, resources, tooling, materials, and customer coordination necessary to execute the project effectively.
Safety & Quality
• Promote IPS safety expectations throughout all phases of project planning and execution.
• Ensure safety and quality requirements are incorporated into project plans, schedules, and customer expectations.
• Partner with Field Leadership, HSE, Quality, and Engineering to address safety or quality concerns.
• Support project lessons learned and continuous improvement following completion of major projects.
Qualifications and Competencies:
5+ years of project management, field service management, construction management, outage management, or similar experience within power generation, hydroelectric generation, rotating equipment, electrical/mechanical services, heavy industrial services, or a related industry preferred.
• Demonstrated experience managing complex field-service or industrial projects involving multiple stakeholders, field personnel, schedules, budgets, and customer requirements.
• Experience supporting hydroelectric generators, large generators, turbines, rotating equipment, utility projects, or power-generation field services strongly preferred.
• Working knowledge of generator repair, maintenance, outage, or field-service operations is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated ability to manage project scope, schedule, budget, resources, risk, and customer expectations.
• Experience managing change orders, project financials, cost forecasting, and project documentation.
• Strong customer-facing skills with the ability to communicate effectively with customer leadership, plant personnel, engineers, field crews, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to make decisions in a fast-paced field-service environment where priorities and project conditions may change quickly.
• Ability to understand technical information, drawings, specifications, repair recommendations, and field reports sufficiently to coordinate technical projects effectively.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple active projects and competing priorities.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related discipline preferred. Equivalent field-service, power-generation, or project-management experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• PMP or other project-management certification is a plus but not required.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and project scheduling/management tools.
• Ability and willingness to travel to customer and project sites as business needs require.
