Responsibilities & Expectations: 

IPS – National Switchgear in Dallas is seeking a Shipping and Receiving Technician to manage the physical and transactional flow of incoming and outgoing shipments. In this role, you will accurately receive, verify, pack, stage, and ship electrical equipment and materials while maintaining organized records and a safe, clean work environment that supports our shop and field operations. 

  • Shipping: Prepare shipments for postal or commercial conveyance; determine the most economical and efficient shipping method, select the appropriate container, and pack items to ensure safe delivery. 
  • Receiving: Receive and unload incoming materials; compare packing slips against purchase orders to verify accuracy of the shipment and process return shipments from customers as needed. 
  • Inspection: Inspect incoming and outgoing shipments for damage or defects, record shortages, and reject damaged goods. 
  • Documentation: Accurately complete shipping documentation, including bills of lading and packing slips; trace lost shipments and customer claims and initiate proof of delivery. 
  • Inventory: Assign and maintain inventory locations in the inventory management system; enter transactions accurately using computers and tablets. 
  • Material Handling: Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, dollies, and overhead cranes to load, unload, and move materials; conduct pre-use equipment inspections and report issues to the supervisor. 
  • Staging: Wrap, band, and stage equipment for pickup; maintain the cleanliness and organization of the shipping, receiving, and staging areas. 
  • Safety & Compliance: Follow all departmental policies, procedures, quality objectives, and safety and environmental standards; comply with PPE requirements and report hazards. 
  • Support: Support warehouse and inventory audits and perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. 

Qualifications and Competencies: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred 
  • Prior experience in shipping, receiving, warehouse, or inventory management, ideally in an industrial or manufacturing environment 
  • Forklift certification, or the ability to become certified; experience with pallet jacks and overhead cranes preferred 
  • Basic computer and tablet skills, with the ability to enter and maintain accurate records 
  • Ability to read and interpret packing slips, purchase orders, and bills of lading 
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with attention to detail 
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull items up to 70 lbs. and work occasional overtime 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills 
  • Valid driver’s license preferred 

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements: 

  • Heavy industrial facility with exposure to loud noise, heat, cold, and dust 
  • Requires standing, walking, climbing, lifting, and traversing uneven terrain for extended periods 
  • Evening, weekend, and occasional long hours may be required based on business needs
